Woots & Snarks



Number of Robots per Event: Two

Length of Event: 3 minutes maximum

Robot Weight Range: Any

Robot Dimensions: Must fit within the inside tape line of the green base box (8" x 11"). Robots can't be taller than the green base box is wide (11").

Game board Specifications: 40" wide x 64" long. Made from two (one black, one white) 32" x 40" sheets of matboard, surrounded by a 1" x 4" wood border. Lines are 1" wide paper, artist's, or painter's tape. Woots are 12 oz. soda cans painted black and filled with 1 oz. of sand. Snarks are the same only painted red.

Event Rules: 

The objective of the contest is to move as many Woots (black objects) into your base while removing all Snarks (red objects) from your area to your opponents.

  1. Robots must be made with LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Invention System and be programmed with the RIS 2.0 or Robolab programming environments.
  2. Robots can consist of a maximum 1 RCX, 8 Wires, and 3 motors.
  3. Robots can only be touched in base for the purposes of repositioning and changing programs.
  4. Players cannot touch Woots or Snarks anywhere on the game board, including your base, during the round.
  5. Nothing can be added or removed from the robot during a round.
  6. Snarks are placed by the judge randomly in any of the six positions with one Snark on each side prior to starting the round.
  7. If the two opponents become caught on one another the round will be paused while opponents are returned to their base before continuing the remainder of the round.
  8. A round is 3 minutes long.

Scoring:
Accomplishment   Points
Each Woot on your side at the end of the round   10 pts
Each Woot in your base at the end of the round   20 pts
Each Snark on your side at the end of the round   - 10 pts
Each Snark in your base at the end of the round   - 20 pts
Touching your robot outside your base   - 1 pt

Crescent Regular Surface Matboard 32" x 40" - #989 Raven Black
Crescent Regular Surface Matboard 32" x 40" - #960 White
Two Sheets of Construction Paper 9" x 12" - Holiday Green
Economy Artist's Tape 1" - White
Black Masking Tape 1"  <--You should be able to find it for cheaper than this. Any 1" flat black tape will do.
Six 12 oz. Soda Cans
Red and Black Spray Paint
6 oz. Sand, Dirt, or other granular substance
