A'mazing Race



Number of Robots per Event: One per team.

Length of Event: 3 minutes maximum

Robot Weight Range: Any

Robot Dimensions: Must fit within a sheet of 8.5” x 11" paper. Robots can't be taller 11".

Maze Specifications: 5’ wide x 5’ long. Walls are of an undetermined size but will be over 5" in height.

Robot Control Specifications:  Autonomous

Tournament Format:  Single Elimination

Objects may be closer than they appear. :)

Event Rules: 

The objective of the contest is to move through the maze in the shortest amount of time possible.

  1. Robots must be made with LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Invention System and be programmed with the Robolab programming environment.
  2. Robots can consist of a maximum 1 RCX, 8 Wires, and 3 motors.
  3. Robots can only be touched prior to starting a round.
  4. The robot must not damage the maze.
  5. The robot cannot drop pieces of itself in the maze.
  6. The robot must travel on the floor of the maze. Robots are not be allowed to jump over walls.
  7. Robots cannot touch the top of the maze walls
  8. The maximum period to traverse the maze is 3 minutes.

Scoring:

Score will be measured in seconds to complete the maze. Shortest time wins the match.


A further bonus of -5 seconds of the final time will be granted to those robots that recognize (by flashing lights, playing a song, doing a dance) the green line at the finish.
